Kamli (English title: The Ballad of Kamli) is a 2005 Indian Telugu- language ethnographic film written, and directed by K. N. T. Sastry. The film stars Nandita Das in the title role of a Lambada girl. The film received positive reviews, and was showcased at the Busan International Film Festival in Korea and the Asian Film Festival in Mumbai. The film won Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 54th National Film Awards, "For a convincing portrayal of the courage of a disadvantaged woman in her fight against female infanticide and child swapping.
Kamli tackles the issues of the sale of the girl child (rampant in the community) and the swapping of the male child, a practice fairly common in the urban areas—particularly in the hospitals.
